I wanted to say Dear has been very nice to me lately.. because he has been waking up v early to talk to me... Now Vancouver has their time adjusted to 1 hr earlier.. meaning instead of a 15hrs time difference, it's now 16hrs!!!
But just as I told him I'm going to blog about how sweet he is, he kept quiet n ignore me while happily typing on his laptop, chatting with his colleague.
MEN... can't praise them, can we?
And they say women are very critical towards them... OK, so now it's women's fault la!
FINE.
Work has been pretty busy as the 'ka kia' has left the company.. so I'm picking alot of my previous work back to do... well.. no choice...
But at least time passes more quickly than before when one is occupied, right? So I've no grumbles over that.
Have been reading Harry Potter (I started with the 6th book and now I'm officially starting from the First book) Well, it's definitely very interesting to read.. light hearted.. after reading Dan Brown, I think I need something light to clear the palate. Also, I can feel the change of mood as I jump from the 6th book to the 1st book.. very interesting.. shall watch the movie again also...
Well... I will have more updates to come on the Thur dinner with the big shots!

the following is taken from the book
Always and Forever by Cathy Kelly, which I'm currently reading.

It's about the stories of 3 women who are facing some problems in their lives. I'm only halfway into the story so I'm still not sure whether the will be able to solves those problems (though i think 99% they will someone conquer all the problems and come out as happier women.. cliche plot) but nonetheless, as a female reader, I connect to the characters in the story. the frustrations they felt when their bosses, husbands and family can't show understanding towards their plight. ARGH!!!

"What message would you like most in the world? What would make you happy?" Leah asked.
"I don't want to be alone," Mary said softly. "It's not great passion I want, or someone buying me roses all the time and whisking me off to glamourous dinners. It's the company, the love. A hug in the morning, a person to smile at when one of the kids say something funny, a warm body to snuggle up against in bed when it's cold."
"Companionship," Leah suggested.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
girls in their teens look for looks. tall, dark and handsome... she'll be the envy of all girls. she will also expect flowers, posh dinners and sweet talks because no one had treated her like this before.
moving on to twenties, we become more practical. looks can only last you for that long, but money is more practical. cars, wines, condo... the more the merrier.
as u move into the thirties, flowers and dinners are just perks in the relationship. u just want a companion. someone who will understand you, can relate to you and will support you in whatever you are doing...
i'm not in my thirties (though i can hear pple saying "but u look/act/are almost like a 30 yr old woman!"... FINE) but perhaps spending too much time with people in their thirties and beyond allows me to fast forward and see what I would be like when i enter the scary number 3.
the one beside u may not be the most handsome, the cleverest, cutest, most patient blah blah blah guy/girl, but as long as you enjoy his/her company, I think that's what's most impt.we need a partner to share our ups and downs in life... not just to get flowers and diamonds (not that flowers and diamonds aren't impt, it's just that they are second to the company. so they are also impt!!!)
I'm not saying that we shld get a partner because we are lonely... that's not entirely true!! even if we are lonely we shldnt be desperate. you must still still love that person b4 u can fully enjoy his company rite?
so what do you want out of a r/s?
looks?
great dinners and wine?
social status?
or do you want his/her company?

what can one do in 3min?
i can walk into popular, grab a book, pay for the book n leave popular.
woohoo! such impulse buying gives u a kick somehow...
n the book i bought gives me more kick. "Shopaholic & Baby"
hahaha, teaching me how to be a shopaholic. i seriously need some training cos i think i lost the 'skill' to do so. that day went shopping with a 10 bucks voucher in hand. a voucher means it's as good as cash, no min purchase required. i spent almost half an hr in the shop n i couldnt decide what to buy. not becos there's too many choice, but becos i've nothing to buy. sigh....
back to the book.. i was reading the first chapter on the train n the book was so hilarious, i was trying so hard nt to laugh too loud lest others think i'm siao or wat.
it really helps to lighten up my day.

finished the book "The Last Empress" by Anchee Min in 2 days, despite being sick in bed on the first day.
hmm.. this book isn't as interesting than the first book "Empress Orchid". That book got me go "awww...", "ooohhhh", "weeeee". it was this exciting. "Empress Orchid" focuses on how Cixi got into the palace and how she trained herself to make the emperor loves her. she did. the emperor couldnt take his everything (esp..ahem...)off her. then there's also the fight among the empress and concubines...
"The Last Empress" focuses more on the days after Cixi's husband died and how she train 2 young boys to rule the country which eventually led to china's downfall.
We always know Cixi as someone evil and have a craving for power, but in this book, Anchee Min tries to portray her through another angle, the vulnerable side of Cixi.
This book speaks up for Cixi as the author mention that many of the evil-doings of Cixi which we know now are fabricated by opposition officials and also foreigners who did not like Cixi. (she held the power on behalf of her sons and the foreigners dont like it cos Cixi was 'stronger' than her sons, aka the emperors)
overall, it's very much like a history book. but intersting to read cos u can feel Cixi's agony and sadness when her sons are unable to fulfill their roles as emperors of china. that's v sad...
also, in this book, Cixi has feelings for one of her official- Yung Lu.
but being the empress dowager, she's under the spotlight 24/7. she cant do anything wrong, so they can just hide their feelings for each other. however, u still can feel their affection for each other as they know what each other want or mean without speaking a word.
this is what i call, understanding.
Yung Lu was Cixi's support in the imperial court and also her pillar of mental support.
When Yung Lu was abt to die (due to fatigue and old age) he made sure he has everything in place to ensure that Cixi will still be able to fight in the imperial court. Everyday, he will insist entering the palace even if it means being carried in on a stretcher.
Yung Lu was preparing Cixi for his death.
up till ytd, i felt as if i'm Cixi being prepared for a someone's "death".
there's nothing Cixi could have done to prevent Yung Lu departure. she can only see him die. and when he died, Cixi can't even cry, cos everyone will be focusing on her.
but now... i don't know...
i've realised i don't know anything anymore...
another sign of escapism.
